Despite
what you may have been told, abortions
are both complicated and traumatic. Often there are
intense physical and emotional costs. Here are some first-hand stories, some with the
author’s email address. If you have your own story to tell, please share it with us
(see Yell at Us!). |

In 1994, the unabashedly pro-choice
Glamour magazine surveyed some 3,000 women who had undergone abortions.
Overwhelmingly, respondents said that if prior to the procedure they had had
any idea of how deeply they would come to regret it, they would have never
gone through with it. For many of these women, who are often left alone to
suffer the pain of abortion, cyberspace has become a safe haven to share,
remember and grieve -- in the days, weeks, months and in some cases, 20 or
more years after they exercise their "reproductive rights."
Many True Stories that now come to AbortionTV, through cyberspace, sadly
reflect increased coercion, harassment and sometimes force, from boyfriends,
parents and so-called friends. They “FORCE THE CHOICE,” of abortion, on
women & girls in crisis pregnancy. In fact, studies show that over 3 out of
4 women who abort, do so against their “free will.” So much for “Choice.” |

My Story, by Kari
Now
just 20, Kari H., shares the horror and pain of her [boyfriend coerced] 1999
abortion, her recovery from PASS, through Project Rachel, but that her
abortion left her infertile for life
Hello, my name is Kari
and I have been visiting this site for several years now. I come here and
read everyone's stories and thought that I could share mine, hoping that it
may someday save a baby's life.
I was in the 10th
grade, and met the "man" of my dreams. He was wonderful, and we did
everything together. By the time we had been dating for a year, and I was
in the 11th grade, I started to have this funny feeling. I couldn't quite
put my finger on it, but something was different about me. I felt an all
around change. After thinking for a while, pregnancy had crossed my mind.
I blew it off though - thinking that because I was only 17 years old, I
couldn't be pregnant, but that feeling kept coming back until one day my
boyfriend took me to buy a pregnancy test.

Brenda Pratt
Shafer, RN
In September, 1993, Brenda
Pratt Shafer, a registered nurse with thirteen years or experience, was
assigned by her nursing agency to an abortion clinic. Since Nurse Shafer
considered herself "very pro-choice," she didn’t think this assignment would
be a problem. She was wrong. This is what Nurse Shafer saw:
"I stood at the
doctor’s side and watched him perform a partial-birth abortion on a woman
who was six months pregnant. The baby’s heartbeat was clearly visible on the
ultrasound screen. The doctor delivered the baby’s body and arms, everything
but his little head. The baby’s body was moving.

Who's Making the Choice?
Women's Heightened Vulnerability During a Crisis Pregnancy
by Amy R. Sobie and David C. Reardon
Abortion advocates speak proudly of "freedom to choose," conjuring up images
of women freely and autonomously making decisions that are "right" for
them.
But research into abortion decision making presents a far different picture.
